Over the past two weeks, our students launched their Robotics Club, guided once again by the incredible STEM educator Dr. Stuart Kohlhagen. What began with assembling robots from kits evolved into deeper explorations of mechanics, coding, and creative problem-solving. Using Arduino C++, students gained new insight into how data becomes information, how systems interact, and how coding connects ideas to action.
Midway through the program, students explored mechanical design and movement—grappling with balance, friction, circuits, and precision through hands-on challenges. This “mechanical workout” turned classroom theory into joyful discovery and gave them a fresh appreciation for how physics comes alive in motion.
Dr. Stuart reminded us that while robotics can sometimes rely too heavily on pre-made systems, true learning happens when students build, test, and think from the ground up. By combining kits with hands-on coding and fabrication, our students developed not just robots, but the habits of curiosity, persistence, and critical thinking that define true innovators.
Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Stuart for his leadership and mentorship, to our brilliant interpreters, and to our teachers and student leaders who supported every step—from preparing kits to mentoring peers and exploring new fabrication tools in our MakeHerSpace.
As this workshop concludes, the excitement is only growing. With the Robotics Club now officially underway, our students are ready to keep designing, coding, and creating their own inventions.
