Financial Literacy in Action

At DWS, financial literacy extends beyond the classroom through real-world experiences that connect work, banking, saving, spending, and personal responsibility.

Each student has her own debit card linked to the school's student bank. Through meaningful jobs across campus, they earn a small income that is deposited directly into their accounts while developing valuable workplace skills.

Students take on real responsibilities across the school community, including:

• Student Banking Associates, managing deposits, transactions, and customer service at the student bank

• Retail Associates, stocking the student cooperative store, assisting customers, and managing sales

• Food and Beverage Production, preparing products for the after-school café

• Food Services Assistants, supporting meal preparation and kitchen operations

• Sustainability Team Members, managing recycling initiatives on campus

• Early Childhood Support, helping younger students develop daily living skills and independence

They use their earnings to make real financial decisions—saving for future goals, managing a budget, and purchasing items at the student cooperative store and café. In doing so, they transform financial concepts from the classroom into everyday practice.

This hands-on financial literacy program is an important part of our holistic education model. By entrusting girls with real responsibilities, we help them develop initiative, problem-solving skills, financial confidence, and a sense of agency as they build self-sufficient, empowered futures.
