Dhammajarinee never gives up on its mission of providing a safe, healthy, protected and progressive environment for girls who may have been victims of violence or abuse.
To accommodate the expanding number of students, fundraising efforts are underway to complete two new buildings already under construction: a 4 story Classroom Building and a new Assembly/Meditation Hall. Please join us in safeguarding the lives and future of more girls by making a donation today.
Experts in Consciousness-Based Education Training came to Thailand from Australia, Holland and the USA to conduct a two-week training course for the teachers at Dhammajarinee School. Dr Ashley Deans, international expert in Consciousness-Based Education, also came to Thailand to share his knowledge and experience with the teachers.
The school director, Acharn Yai, started a supportive, business project to help students gain business experience and earn personal spending money, and in addition support the school. Volunteer high school students skilled in organic gardening are harvesting and selling worm casting and the demand is high.
In January a large group of Dhammajarinee high school students won national first place in Buddhist recitation, an award from the King of Thailand.
As this New Year begins, we want to thank all donors who have generously supported our efforts over the last year to expand and develop Dhammajarinee further.
As a donor you are wise to recognize the far-reaching effects of quality primary and secondary education for young girls lacking opportunity. Women with more education tend to make better decisions throughout their lives, especially concerning many health, family and quality of life factors.
A recent study indicated that the single biggest factor, by far, in reducing the rate of death worldwide among children younger than five is greater education for women.
We are continuing to pursue our expansion plans which, over the next several decades, will allow many thousands of girls to attend.
We are happy and excited to let you know that Dhammajarinee has recently received Royal School Recognition.
This rare honor involves extensive evaluations of every school program. All the students, the faculty and administrators, as well as every aspect of the administrative records and finances are looked into carefully. This is a more rigorous evaluation than that conducted by the Department of Education. Receiving this honor raises the school to a significantly higher level of respect and credibility. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible, and please enjoy a few pictures from the award day.
The number of students grew this year from 690 in 2016 to 775 in 2017. And the number of students practicing the TM-Sidhi Program is expected to grow this year from 397 in 2016 to 467 by the end of 2017. At present, the students use the assembly hall for group practice--each day furnishings are moved to allow for practice, and then replaced.
However, even with moving all the furnishings, this present room is not large enough to allow for the present number of students to do their group program together. For the school to achieve the goal of 1000 practicing the advanced TM-Sidhi program together, a larger meditation hall must be built soon.
The building with the needed interiors is estimated to be one million dollars. A campaign to fundraise for this large meditation hall will begin August 2017. Please everyone, think together to help us fulfill this most important facility to generate coherence and peace for Thailand and all of Southeast Asia
We are happy to report that 10 large washing machines have been ordered and will be delivered soon. One generous donor wanted to help, and after an analysis of the amount of current use and present number of students, it was felt that 10 large, home washers designed for heavy use would meet the demand at this time. These machines will save the girls time and reduce the cost of water for the school significantly.
Two television stations visited the school this spring and created beautiful videos, drawing more national attention to the success of the school. The video below features an interview and a walk around the campus, which has grow impressively thanks to donor support over the last 7 years. The video is 19 min and in Thai, but we wanted to share it here for you to enjoy the great images of the girls and the buildings. There are many shots of the pink classroom building completed a few years ago.
