Acharn Yai and her assistant recently traveled to remote areas of Northern Thailand in order to offer quality education to girls from Thailand’s poorest areas, those most lacking in opportunity. In these poor areas of Thailand, parents who cannot afford school uniforms or food and transportation to small government schools may take their girls out of school rather than lose face. Every year more girls come to the school and we expect a significant increase this year. ![]() To meet the expected increase, the school has been fully focused on expanding the dining and kitchen facilities. The extended cement floors, brick walls are nearing completion and being made ready for the necessary tables, chairs and kitchen equipment.

![]() Not long ago I heard a very touching story about the wonderful care the girls receive at Dhammajarinee Witthaya School. Although some of the girls are sent to the school by loving families who simply want their children to have more opportunity than they can provide for them at home, that is not always the case. Sometimes it happens that a young child has been orphaned or otherwise traumatized, and now she faces the additional difficulty of adapting to a totally new situation where she does not know anyone. In those cases an individual nun is assigned to her care and she watches over her day and night, even sleeping with the child, until she has adjusted to living at the school. ![]() The world's cutest girls, or a good number of them anyway, seem to attend Dhammajarinee Witthaya School. Their stories are absolutely compelling--it is inspiring to see what education and a safe place to live can accomplish in the life of a young girl. And of course, when you educate a girl the effects are felt throughout her family, community, and nation. One of the most effective ways to uplift a nation is to educate her girls and that is just what Dhammajarinee Witthaya School is doing. See the latest here and on Facebook. |
